Drugs for HIV: strategies for use

An improved range of antiretroviral agents, and re-formulations, are revolutionizing the management of HIV. Well-tolerated, compact combinations are becoming established as the standard of care regimens for long-term therapy. High levels of adherence to highly active antiretroviral combinations have turned HIV infection into a chronic, manageable disease. New drug classes in development are likely to further improve the management of persons resistant to some or all of the current oral drug classes.
