The financial crisis and the geography of wealth transfers

► We study the geography of wealth transfers at the height of the financial crisis. ► We construct valuation changes on bilateral external positions. ► We find a diverse set of fortunes governed by the structure of countries' portfolios. ► Losses on debt portfolios are related to the country's exposure to ABS.
