Exports, borders, distance, and plant size

► We examine the effect of distance on exporting and on domestic shipping. ► We find that large plants are more likely to export and to ship farther domestically. ► Border effects can only partly explain this plant-size/export relationship. ► More than half of the relationship results from the effect of distance itself.
