The gains from short-term commitments

► We study how the gains from commitment depend on how far ahead policymakers commit. ► All gains available can be achieved by continuously committing just one period ahead. ► Most of the gains can be obtained through commitment streaks lasting 3-4 periods. ► Short-term commitments should be more credible than once-and-for-all commitments.
