Heterologous expression of endo-1,4-β-xylanase A from Schizophyllum commune in Pichia pastoris and functional characterization of the recombinant enzyme

► Endo-1, 4-β-xylanase A, XynA, from Shizophyllum commune was cloned and functionally expressed. ► XynA have high degradation activity to unsubstituted xylan backbone. ► XynA effectively degraded approximately 45% of unsubstituent xylan of the wood biomass poplar stem by TEM observation.
