New insight into transcription of human endogenous retroviral elements

► A method for detecting HERV transcription using RNA-seq is proposed. ► Transcription of HERVs is a frequent event. ► At least 0.2-1% of all transcripts in human cells are of HERV origin. ► Some HERVs are transcribed in a tissue specific manner.
