Luminol as the light source for in situ photodynamic therapy

► Luminol was utilized as an in situ light source in photodynamic therapy. ► The viability of cells decreased when treated with 5-ALA and excited by luminol. ► Luminol emission triggered 5-ALA transformation to PpIX and lead to cell death.
