Purification and characterization of a new alkaline serine protease from the thermophilic fungus Myceliophthora sp.

► Myceliophthora sp. produces a 28.2 kDa alkaline serine protease stimulated by Mg2+. ► Substrate specificity was explored using FRET peptides derived from AbzKLRSSKQEDDnp. ► Subsites S1, S2, S3 and S1′, S2′, S3′, in general, prefer hydrophobic residues.
