Influence of low air pressure on combustion characteristics and flame pulsation frequency of pool fires

► 15 square burner size pool fires of ethanol and n-heptane conducted in Lhasa and Hefei. ► Higher maximum temperature, lower radiation, higher puffing frequency of flame were observed in Lhasa. ► Very small size burner has bigger burning rate in Lhasa. ► In Lhasa, pool fire is more buoyant, leading to stronger periodic oscillation.
