Steroid hormone levels in calling males and males practicing alternative non-calling mating tactics in the green treefrog, Hyla cinerea

► We compared steroid levels in calling and non-calling “satellite” male treefrogs. ► Satellite males had higher corticosterone and lower androgen levels than callers. ► Satellites were in poorer condition and lost aggressive bouts with conspecifics. ► Both factors may contribute to variation in hormone levels and tactic expression.
