Exogenous corticosterone and nest abandonment: A study in a long-lived bird, the Adélie penguin

► Exogenous corticosterone induced 60% of nest abandonment in Adélie penguins. ► Corticosterone alone is not sufficient to provoke nest abandonment. ► Low prolactin and increased proteolysis seem also to be required to trigger nest desertion.
