Resolution of the diagnosis and maternal sensitivity among mothers of children with Intellectual Disability

► 28% of mothers in our study were “resolved” regarding their child's diagnosis of Intellectual Disability compared with 72% “unresolved” mothers. ► “Resolved” mothers showed more maternal sensitivity toward their children during interaction than “unresolved” mothers. ► Maternal resolution and maternal sensitivity were associated even when we controlled for the child's responsiveness to the mother, suggesting that the link between resolution and sensitivity cannot be accounted by the impact of the child's behavior on the mother.
