Photolytic treatment of organic constituents and bacterial pathogens in secondary effluent of synthetic slaughterhouse wastewater

► VUV alone and combined UV-C/VUV and VUV/UV-C had higher efficiencies. ► Lower H2O2 concentration is needed in VUV process. ► Batch mode had lower efficiency than continuous due to quick consumption of H2O2. ► Finding the optimum molar ratio H2O2/TOC is crucial to maximize removal efficiency. ► Photochemical processes were effective in inactivating bacteria in wastewater.
