Characterization and modeling of the soluble microbial products in membrane bioreactor

▶ Three different batch experiments were conducted for SMP parameter estimation. ▶ Hydrolysis was assumed as the first step for SMP utilization based on chemical analysis. ▶ The polysaccharides and protein were the main products in the substrate utilization stage. ▶ The humic acids, fulvic acids and lipids were appeared to be the main parts in the biomass endogenous stage. ▶ A model was developed on the platform of ASM3-SMP with the concept of simultaneous growth and storage of organic substrate. ▶ A minimum SMP production with 25.1 mg COD/L was suggested at 40 days SRT and 8 h HRT.
