Cadmium and mercury removal from non-point source wastewater by a hybrid bioreactor

► The bioreactor concurrently supported heterotrophic and autotrophic microorganisms. ► Cd and Hg from non-point source wastewater were removed by the hybrid bioreactor. ► Cd removal was mainly associated with the biofilm formation. ► Hg removal was mainly due to the bioaccumulation in macrophytes.
