A kinetic analysis and experimental validation of an integrated system of anaerobic filter and biological aerated filter

► The AF/BAF system successfully removed organic matter and nitrogen. ► The kinetics using steady-state COD and biomass mass balance showed that the AF was overestimated caused by some assumptions. ► The recirculation ratio in the AF/BAF system was an important operation parameter to remove organic matter and nitrogen. ► There sloughing off of biomass in the AF existed and this was predominately determined by recirculation ratio.
