The conventional power system stabilizer (PSS) contributes to the undamped electromechanical oscillations enhancement. This paper explores a PSS, which is based on physical concepts that allow a novel PSS to evaluate its output using simple decision rules. This PSS is formulated in an algebraic way, which eases its assembling and coordination. Results show the conventional and the novel PSS performances to damp out inter-area oscillations in a dynamic equivalent of an actual power grid. The feasibility of the novel PSS is demonstrated through its coordinated operation. It is tested on a real time board to emulate a single-machine infinite-bus (SMIB).
