Incorporation of functional nano-silica fillers modifies bulk mechanical properties of the POSS-PCU nanocomposite scaffold. By altering the type of functional silica used, mechanical properties can be tailored to either encourage or discourage cellular responses. This strategy can help to customize biological implants.121
