Reaction of human macrophages on protein corona covered TiO2 nanoparticles

Macrophage interaction with protein corona covered TiO2 nanoparticles. The reaction of the immune cells to low concentration of TiO2 nanoparticles despite the intense use of this material is not well investigated. We have shown that the protein corona developed on the surface of this particle agglomerate secondary modified proteins. Using primary cells of macrophages, we demonstrated that this corona induced at low particle concentrations the secretion of interleukin-6 which mediates, among others, autoimmune diseases.78
