Speech therapist must care for both: The specific disorder and the personal and social person traits in the rehabilitation of voice, speech, language and communication disorders. During rehabilitation sessions persons learn together specific techniques as well as notions of rehabilitation process and themselves. These notions determine rehabilitation efficacy. This article considers motivation from a sociocognitve approach that points up three components of motivation: Expectation, task value and affect. In the first part a theoretical approach to motivational difficulties shown by persons with voice, speech, language and communication disorders during rehabilitation is reported. Three questions that persons usually ask themselves during rehabilitation -Can I do it?, Why I do this? How do I feel when I do this?- are reviewed. In the second part some practical procedures to deal with motivation difficulties considered as a rehabilitation content are suggested. The importance of dealing with expectations, task value, goals, self-estime and anxiety and some procedures to do it are pointed out.
