Response inhibition triggered by the briefly viewed image of a hand: Behavioural and electrophysiological evidence

► Subjects were briefly presented with the image of a hand. ► We collected behavioural and electrophysiological data. ► We observed negative compatibility effect (NCE) in relation to the hand identity. ► The pattern of lateralized readiness potential (LRP) was compatible with the NCE. ► The motor self-inhibition appear to be a general sensorimotor mechanism.
