Memory monitoring performance and PFC activity are associated with 5-HTTLPR genotype in older adults

► 5-HTTLPR genotype potentially beneficial to source memory monitoring in older adults. ► Older adults with L/L profile perform similarly to younger adults on task. ► Activation of key PFC regions is also related with increased task performance. ► The short allele is associated with lower performance and less PFC recruitment.
