The brain dynamics of intellectual development: Waxing and waning white and gray matter

► We assessed brain structure and intellectual abilities in participants 8-30 years. ► General factors of cortical thickness, white matter volume and DTI indices. ► These factors showed age-independent relationships with intellectual abilities. ► Different imaging measures gave unique and complementary information. ► The results emphasize the importance of multimodal imaging.
