Mind the gap: Access to ARV medication, rights and the politics of scale in South Africa

►Antiretroviral medication access is analysed at one service point using a multi-scale approach. ►Barriers to access are found to be comprised by local specificities and also in combination with other scales. ►Highlighting context, non-local factors, and political uses of scale can improve both AIDS treatment programmes and also human rights implementation.
