Entropy production and thermal conductivity of a dilute gas

► A new derivation of the thermal conductivity of a dilute gas is presented. ► The new derivation is carried out by using the steepest entropy ascent (SEA) principle in conjunction with the maximum entropy production (MEP) principle. ► As an intermediate step, the entropy of a dilute gas that carries a given heat flux is derived in the form of a quadratic function.
