A seed-diffusion model for tropical tree diversity patterns

► A spatially explicit neutral model for tropical tree communities is investigated through Monte Carlo simulations. ► The diffusion of seeds in space generates the dispersal kernel. ► The maximum survival distance of the seeds is the free adjustable parameter of the model. ► Monte Carlo simulation results are compared with tropical tree-census data. ► Relevant macro-ecological measures are qualitatively well reproduced.
