Patent quality and ownership: An analysis of UK faculty patenting

► We examine the relationship between patent quality and ownership through a sample of UK academic patents. ► Patents owned by companies receive more citations in the first years after the filing. ► The change of ownership is an indicator of patent quality. ► Among individual characteristics, researcher's scientific quality appears slightly correlated with patent quality.
