Trace element concentrations in teeth - a modern Idaho baseline with implications for archeometry, forensics, and palaeontology

► 69 minor and trace elements were measured in modern animal teeth from Idaho. ► At least 35 trace elements are now easily measurable by LA-ICP-MS. ► Traverses show strong zoning; spot analyses show unexpected trophic effects. ► Omnivore and carnivore compositions are likely affected by dust/dirt consumption. ► Hominid/human diet inferences may be strongly influenced by food preparation.
