Socio-demographic, environmental, lifestyle and psychosocial factors predict self rated health in Irish Travellers, a minority nomadic population

► This is the first comprehensive census survey since 1987 of Ireland's nomadic Travellers. ► It employed a highly novel oral-visual electronic questionnaire to overcome literacy challenges. ► Self-rated health is negatively associated with social indicators, including discrimination. ► The final model shows both material and psycho-social indictors predict self-rated health. ► The study is relevant to other International studies of hard-to-reach ethnic minorities.
