Charged single alpha-helices in proteomes revealed by a consensus prediction approach

► The charged single α-helix (CSAH) is a novel protein structural motif. ► Using a consensus prediction approach, we surveyed all UniProt proteins. ► The CSAH motif is most abundant in RNA-binding and symbiosis-related proteins. ► The motif shows no deep conservation in protein families. ► CSAH segments might be subjects of relatively rapid molecular evolution.
