► Visualization of domain in which the responses remained affected and/or unaffected. ► The significance of the factor effects differs between the experimental designs. ► The NIRS method for moisture content prediction is considered non-robust. ► The NIRS method used for protein and wet gluten content prediction is robust. ► External factors with significant influence on NIRS results were indicated.
