Hypocholesterolemic effects of low calorie structured lipids on rats and rabbits fed on normal and atherogenic diet

► Two structured lipids (SLs) containing essential fatty acids were prepared. ► Calorific value of these two SLs is in the range of 5.2-5.4 Kcal/g. ► SLs have hypocholesterolemic effects on rats/rabbits, fed on normal/atherogenic diets. ► SLs reduce lipid accumulation in the arteries of rabbits given atherogenic diets. ► SLs will find applications in the food industry as low calorie fat substitute having hypocholesterolemic activity.
