Assessing erosion processes using the magnetic tracer method within a small catchment in the Kursk region

An analysis is made of the data on magnetic susceptibility, content of spherical magnetic particles (SMP), content of organic carbon and morphological properties of chernozems within a small catchment of the Kursk region. A comparative analysis of the magnetic tracer methods and the soil-morphological method revealed manifestation characteristics of erosion processes on morphologically different slopes of the catchment. By analyzing the layer-by-layer content of SMP in soils of the bottom of the draw, it was possible to differentiate the accumulative layer into sublayers that formed at different periods of time with a different composition of sediments, and the mechanisms of their accumulation.
