Deep water temperature variation of Lake Baikal during 1972-2007

An analysis is made of the results of water temperature measurements in Baikal for the period 1972-2007. An anomalous warming in that period was accompanied by a gradual rise in temperature of the upper 300-meter layer, but it had no effect on the state of the waters in the deep zone. Its temperature fluctuations during 1972-1992 were due mainly to changes in dynamical effects of the atmosphere on the water layer which caused interannual variations in activity of the deep-water convection.
