A novel angiotensin I-converting enzyme inhibitory peptide from Phascolosoma esculenta water-soluble protein hydrolysate

► Pepsin hydrolysate of P. esculenta water-soluble protein had ACE inhibitory activity. ► A novel ACE inhibitory peptide (AWLHPGAPKVF) named as PeP was purified. ► PeP acted as competitive inhibitor against ACE. ► PeP could reduce SBP around 30 mmHg in spontaneously hypertensive rats. ► PeP could maintain the reduced SBP for more than 8 h.
