Attenuated metabolism is a hallmark of obesity as revealed by comparative proteomic analysis of human omental adipose tissue

► 2D-DIGE was used for the first time to study obesity based on omental fat. ► Twenty proteins were up-regulated and 24 down-regulated in response to obesity. ► Diminished metabolism is a hallmark of obesity. ► The up-regulated proteins evidence morphological changes in the obese adipocytes. ► TKT and ACY-1 are newly described proteins with an important role in obesity.
