Comparative proteomic analysis of Salmonella tolerance to the biocide active agent triclosan

► Proteins of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium associated with triclosan defence and tolerance were identified. ► Exposure to triclosan induced a general stress response. ► In a triclosan tolerant mutant, the triclosan target, FabI, was up-regulated and mutated. ► Tolerance to triclosan involved modifications in metabolism, transport and permeability. ► Triclosan tolerance was associated with de-repressed efflux systems.
