Snake venomics and antivenomics of Protobothrops mucrosquamatus and Viridovipera stejnegeri from Taiwan: Keys to understand the variable immune response in horses

► The 'venomes' of two viperid species from Taiwan are reported. ► Metallo- and serine proteinases, and PLA2s were the most abundant components. ► Horses developed variable immune responses against P. mucrosquamatus venom. ► Variability is due to differences in the neutralization of a neurotoxic PLA2.
