- Sactipeptides represent a new class of ribosomally and postranslationally modified peptides.
- Characteristics of sactipeptides: thioether bond, bridging the S of a cysteine with the α-C of an acceptor amino acid.
- The biosynthesis of sactipeptides in general and the radical based mechanism of thioether bond formation are reviewed.
- Proposed mechanism of thioether generation is compared to the mechanism of thioether formation in lanthipeptide synthesis.
- Proposed mechanism of thioether generation is compared to other radical based thioether bond forming reactions.
