Further studies on the dialkylation chemistry of [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4] with activated alkyl halides RC(O)CH2X (X = Cl, Br)

► Synthesis of new dialkylated derivatives of [Pt2(μ-S)2(PPh3)4] using alkyl bromides RC(O)CH2Br. ► Structure of [Pt2{μ-SCH2C(O)Ph}2(PPh3)4](PF6)2 shows Pt⋯OC interactions. ► Presence of Pt⋯OC interactions related to stability towards replacement of PPh3 by Br− ions. ► Structures of [Pt2{μ-SCH2C(O)Ph}(μ-SR)(PPh3)3Br]PF6 (R = Et, n-Bu) reported.
