Redox recognition using “click” chemistry

► Ferrocenyltriazolyl- and biferrocenyl dendrimers were synthesized and fully characterized. ► Ferrocenyl dendrimers show a single cyclic voltammetry wave due to equivalence of all the ferrocenyl groups. ► Cyclic voltammetry allows selective recognition of oxo-anions and transition-metal cations. ► In biferrocenyl dendrimers, the outer ferrocenyl groups are oxidized more easily than the inner ones. ► In biferrocenyl dendrimers, the outer ferrocenyl groups recognize oxo-anions whereas the inner ones recognize metal cations.
