Structural modifications of quinolone-3-carboxylic acids with anti-HIV activity

A series of novel 5-hydroxylquinolone-3-carboxylic acids were synthesized in an attempt to investigate whether the introduction of OH at C-5 position would provide an additional metal binding site and result in an improved activity against HIV-1.
