Metabolism of the phytoalexins camalexins, their bioisosteres and analogues in the plant pathogenic fungus Alternaria brassicicola

- Camalexin, 1-methylcamalexin and 6-methoxycamalexin are detoxified by the plant pathogen Alternaria brassicicola.
- Camalexins inhibit strongly mycelial growth of A. brassicicola.
- Methyl groups on the thiazole ring of camalexin prevent its degradation, but do not affect the antifungal activity.
- Three structural isomers of camalexin are not metabolized by A. brassicicola.
