Expression of the heparinase gene from Flavobacterium heparinum in Escherichia coli and its enzymatic properties

► The recombinant strain bearing a heparinase gene was constructed. ► Heparinase from the recombinant strain was purified. ► Enzymatic properties of the expressed heparinase were evaluated. ► Observed activity of heparinase is the highest in the presence of Ca2+ and Cu2+. ► This study lays a good foundation for preparing LMWHs by the heparinase.
