Modification of hydroxypropyl guar gum with ethanolamine

► A new guar gum derivative containing amino group is synthesized. ► The tosylation reaction occurs mostly at hydroxyl groups of hydroxypropyl. ► The formed tosyl groups can be displaced easily by ethanolamine. ► The reaction condition is easy to be controlled.
