Synthesis and characterization of temperature sensitive hemicellulose-based hydrogels

► Hemicelluloses isolated from eucalyptus are employed to prepare the temperature responsive hydrogels. ► The hydrogels distinctly exhibit a feature of negative temperature sensitivity. ► Such property can be adjusted by changing the ratio of the maleated hemicelluloses and NIPAAm. ► The LCST of the hydrogels increase with the content of the maleated hemicelluloses. ► The HMN hydrogels exhibit a faster water uptake rate than pure PNIPAAm hydrogels.
