Composition identification of Salvia extracts and testing of its inhibiting myocytes cell death caused by hypoxia/reoxygenation

► A four-factor, three-level factorial design was used. ► The optimal conditions for extraction of Salvia heteroglycan were obtained. ► The corresponding response value predicted for heteroglycan production. ► Salvia heteroglycan contained rhamnose, glucose and galactose. ► A water and ethanol extract of Salvia could enhance cell viability.
