Cellulose/starch/HALS composite fibers extruded from an ionic liquid

► Cellulose, starch, and a hindered amine light stabilizer were dissolved in an ionic liquid and then extruded into fibers. ► The physical properties of the composite fibers were sufficient for many textile processing and projected end-use applications. ► Starch-containing composite fibers exhibited lower tenacity and higher elongation at break compared to cellulose composite fiber. ► The hindered amine light stabilizer exhibited remarkably good resistance towards repeated chlorination and ultraviolet light irradiation cycles.
