Preparation and characterization of self-emulsified waterborne nitrocellulose

► WNC was synthesized by self emulsification and reactions among IPDI, DMPA and NC. ► The particle size and PDI of the WNC dispersion is 133 nm and 0.152 respectively. ► The cured WNC particles show a core-shell structure. ► In the WNC molecule, the NCO group of IPDI has been consumed and the backbone of NC is retained. ► The cross-linked WNC has better thermal resistance and weaker water-sensitivity.
