Novel hydrophobic hemicelluloses: Synthesis and characteristic

► A novel hemicellulosic derivative possessing hydrophobic groups was prepared. ► The benzylation of hemicelluloses with benzyl chloride was discussed. ► Benzylated hemicelluloses with low DS (0.09-0.35) were obtained. ► The thermal stability increased after the modification of hemicelluloses.
